Mala Gospa Holy Day - Nativity of Our Lady
The Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Lopar has always been a favourite destination for many pilgrims and the faithful. The feast day of the Nativity of Mary on 8 September is particularly important. This is when three masses are held here in the open air. It is a day when people come in a particularly cheerful mood dressed in traditional costumes to pray, sing and celebrate together. In addition to attending holy mass, visitors can choose from the wide range of culinary specialities on offer (such as ox on a spit or the traditional lentil dish, sočivo) and watch various sporting competitions. The religious holiday ends with a big party in a tent that lasts until the early morning hours. If you visit Lopar on the feast day of the Nativity of Mary, we are sure that you will want to come again!
