Opera stars on the island of Rab
On 9 September, Rab will host a special event dedicated to opera and operetta: a gala concert starting start at 21:00 in the beautiful setting of the Rab Summer Cinema.
This concert is a continuation of last year’s OPERissimo concert, which was realised under the watchful eye of the celebrated prima donna Dunja Vejzović and consisted of overtures, arias and scenes from the operas of Bizet, Verdi, Puccini, Tchaikovsky and Wagner.
This year’s OPERette concert – a gala evening dedicated to scenes from opera and operetta – will host renowned opera stars Diana Haller, Evelin Novak, Krešimir Stražanac and Ivan Turšić. The Croatian Radiotelevision Symphony Orchestra, under the baton of conductor Valentin Egel, will perform overtures and arias by famous composers such as Rossini, Stolz, Millöcker, Offenbach, Bizet, Lehar, Lörtzing, Káláman and Strauss, all of which have been carefully chosen by prima donna Vejzović, who this year celebrates her 80th birthday! For this occasion, a special programme has been prepared, which will surely delight all those who love opera and operetta, while recruiting new enthusiasts for this type of music.
This year’s edition is organised by the Town of Rab, the Rab Public Open University, the Town of Rab Tourist Board and Croatian Radiotelevision. The sponsors are the Ministry of Culture and Media and Biserka and Michael Baum, a couple who love the island of Rab and classical music and have generously supported these events for the second consecutive year. Since the idea of the organisers is that such concerts become a tradition in the town of Rab, a special title has been coined for this occasion: Starry Rab Nights – the aegis under which all other concerts in collaboration with prima donna Vejzović will be held.
